History of the Church

Our Church Family

The Disciples of Christ and Presbyterian churches merged in 1974. This union has resulted in a strong ecumenical outlook. Approximately half of the active membership was raised in a denomination other than Disciples or Presbyterian. While we value our two denomination ties and traditions, we are our own blend of uniqueness. Most members since the 1974 merger are no longer conscious of two separate congregations, but rather feel themselves a part of one body, First Church United, which is related to two denominations.
